End of year holidays

I am ji-xuan  from 2J.During the start of the holidays, i went to guangzhou/guangxi,China. We flew on singapore airlines (yay) to guangzhou, which we then slowly moved to guangxi, guilin and back to guangzhou. I personally feel that this was a nice trip as throughout the journey, i learnt many things involving the cultures, villages of there, which were important as they were slowly being forgotten by us chinese that now live across the globe.sadly ,after just 1 week there, we had to return. Basically the rest of my holidays was just spent on cca training, playing games and going out with friends, was pretty routine and boring i guess but still was a good way to pass time. Unfortuantely, all good things must come to an end, the enjoyable holidays was over and it was time to go back to school. But the good thing was that i could see my friends again.

Class work (yap wen Shien)

1. Over the three weeks of CID lessons, I have learnt many things. The most important things that I have learnt are that a picture speaks a thousand word and not everything is what it seems. In one lesson, we were shown a picture of a young girl in Africa who was very very skinny with a vulture standing by her. This picture made me feel very sad as it symbolized death, the death of the starving girl. And yet at the same time it made me quite angry as the photographer did not bother helping the girl by giving her some food, but that was not up to me to decide. Thus through a simple picture like that, tells a lot of different things and make people feel different emotions. Another time, there was two pictures shown to us, a picture of a man beggar and a lady beggar with a child. Most of the people in our class, including me, thought that the lady was the real beggar that we would choose to help but in the end we realized that she was actually part of a group of people to 'fake' beg, to get money from people, and that the man beggar was really the one in need. Thus through these three weeks, I learnt quite a lot.

2. When thinking of Chinese New Year, the first colour that pops into my mind is definitely red. Every year, my house will be decorated in red ornaments and decorations and it's just such a great colour for the occasion as it is prosperous. A symbol that I will think of is probably a water droplet, probably because I feel that the Chinese New Year is a time for us to start a fresh year, and start the lunar year with a clean start.
For me, I chose this picture because I love to eat, and my favorite thing to eat during Chinese New Year is definitely yu sheng. I just love the whole process of mixing it and definitely love the process of eating it. I and just very excited for the time to lao yu sheng.

Blogwork (Classwork) Lim Jia Yi

1. In the past 3 weeks we learn that it is the important looking beyond just what is on the surface and observant towards our surroundings. I learnt that we should judge a book just by its cover. In one of lesson, we are shown pictures of 2 different beggars. A male sitting down with a cardboard that says he needs money as he faced problems. While the other picture shows a lady carrying a child begging money from strangers. Just judging by what we see, most people would donate money to the lady as she needs to take care of her baby. However, the lady is not carrying a child. She is from a group of people who ask these poor ladies to carry a child and beg for money.  While the male has actually only a hand and it was not seen that he least one of his hand. After knowing more, we realized that we should donate money to the male. From this lesson I learn that before we derive at a conclusion, we should always find out more about the situation.
2.
Colour: Yellow, as it is the color of sunshine. It's associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy
Symbol: Heart, as I love New Year and is excited about it.

Caption: New Year is always very fun and brings lots of joy for everyone as families and friends get to have time from their busy schedules to meet up and chat. So it is a great chance for everybody to meet up and eat together.

1. Reflection

Over the past 3 weeks of CID, I learnt many values. I have learnt more about how to construct, integrate and differentiate. In the second lesson, the teacher showed us pictures of two beggars. One beggar was a man holding a board which said he was homeless and broke and the other beggar was a woman holding a baby. We were told to choose who we would help of we could only help one of them. I chose to help the woman because the woman had a baby and I thought she needed my help more, the majority of the class also chose the same thing as me. However, after that, the teacher showed us their true background. The man had lost his arm and needed some money to get up on his feet again. The woman was holding a baby that was not hers but belonged to a association for beggars who use babies and small children to beg foreigners for money. Though she would only get a small cut of the money she begged, and the association would get the majority of the money, I think that it is still not acceptable because she was lying. Moreover, in the end, we would be helping the association and not the beggars. Therefore, after given a chance to change our first decision, the majority of the class changed their decision. From this lesson, I learnt that looks may be deceiving so we should not trust others so easily. I think in our life, people judge too much and they just assume a person's character by their actions and looks. However, a person does not show their true personality except for when they are people they are close with or when there is nobody around. Therefore, you can almost never know one's true character, thus we should not judge by looks. We should try understanding others and emphatise with them, not just treat them like you think they are.

2. Chinese New Year

Colour- Red ( All the decorations for Chinese New Year are red and everywhere I go, I see red. )
Symbol- Horse ( 2014 is the Horse Year )
Chinese New Year is very exciting and fun, so I feel very happy during that time.

December Holiday

I am Lim Jia Yi from 2J. During the December Holidays, I went to USA. It was a very special trip as I did not go with tour agencies. It was a free and easy tour as I have an aunt who migrated there and she helped us to arranged the places we are going. and she brings us there. So we got to stay at her house and we also arranged local tours there to go. What made it even more special was that the day we got there was Halloween. Singapore does not celebrate Halloween so it was a pretty great experience.  And I realized that USA do sell alot of foods that are found in Singapore in their supermarket. Like can foods. Their Haggen Dazs are much cheaper than in Singapore. And some Singapore products like biscuits are even cheaper than sold in Singapore. We also went to winery which was a very relaxing experience. It is where adults get to taste wine and purchased them. I really love the winery although I do not drink wine. But because it is a very relaxing place. There are very beautiful scenery and there are nobody there, which makes u feel very refreshing. In Singapore, there is no place where there is nobody and is able to let us relax our mind. Everywhere is crowded. I love USA apartments too. They have the front yard and the garage. Their house are very big with 2 storeys. And most people put carpets for the whole house, which I really love. USA has a really relaxing life which I really love.

EOY Holidays ^_^

I am Wang Shuning from 1J. During my holidays, I did not have an opportunity to go overseas as my family and I weren't free, but I still enjoyed myself. I went out with a lot of different friends and caught up with them for the time lost during the holidays. I also celebrated Christmas and my birthday with my friends and I feel very grateful. As I did not have much CCA sessions, I spent most my time going out with my friends and the most distinct outing was when Wen Ping invited us to his house for a barbeque. At first, it was pretty awkward as it is a family barbeque, so we did not know anyone there except for ourselves, so the whole time we stuck together and went upstairs to talk and did not dare to go down. But after a while, we were all hungry and decided to just go downstairs for some food. It wasn't as awkward as we thought and we really enjoyed ourselves and of course, the food! It was a pretty decent experience and I would totally go again next year! Overall, my holiday was a pretty good and fruitful one. I caught up with my friends and had a great time.

MY HOLIDAYS

I am Erlene Chua Jia Yan from 2J. During the holidays, I went to Dubai. I think this trip is different from other trips because Dubai is a place which many people have not gone and it is a unique place to go. It was free and easy because my father had a friend there and he guided us a lot. My father rented a car so he could drive around Dubai with his friend. I think one of the more interesting things is going to Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world. It stands at about 828 metres above sea level and is awarded quite a few world records. We stayed there to watch the sunset. Dubai is not as cloudy as Singapore, so the sun is seen much more clearly and the sunset is more yellowish compared to Singapore's sunset which is more reddish. When I went up there, I felt like I was at the top of the world so it was an interesting experience. Many people think Dubai is not a good place to go because of their religious beliefs and also, they think it is still a desert. However, in Dubai now there are many buildings with very interesting architect and it is a lot like a city, and the desert is quite a long drive from the city too. Dubai is less strict about religious beliefs now and there are even people who wear shorts and sleeveless shirts. Therefore, I think Dubai is a very good place to go but I went during the winter time so it was not very warm with temperatures from 18-25 degrees Celsius. I think the winter time is the best time to go because the summer is very warm and temperatures can be above 40 degrees Celsius. Overall, i think Dubai is a nice place to go so I would want to go to Dubai again and visit the places I have not went to next time.

My December holiday

I am yap wen Shien from 2J and for my holidays, the most fun moment should be when I went to Korea. I went to korea for about 7 days and what made this trip different from the other trips, is that this trip was planned by our own family without going by tour. I stayed in Seoul for the whole trip and the favorite place that I went to should be Myeongdong which is a very big shopping area. It is basically like shops along the roads and the area it takes up is very large. There were so many things to do there like eat, have massage and shop. I bought lots of hats there as they were very cheap and also bought Korean groups' merchandise. Another fun part was when I went to a mountain called Mt. Seorak. We went to a middle section of the mountain through cable car and then we climbed some stairs which were very slippery due to the snow and we then reached one of the edges of the mountains. And what made it scary was that we were at the edge of the mountain and there were no barriers at all so one slip and something very very bad could happen. And what made it even worse was the wind was very very strong, I remember at that time I was wearing a hat and the wind was so strong that it blew my hat away, and that whole experience just made me very scared. However, overall I really enjoyed this Korea trip and would really want to go there again but would like to go to more parts of Korea.
